KARL MARX ON JERUSALEM

Israeli writer Shlomo Avineri recently raised the fact that Karl Marx discussed Jerusalem in an article published in the New York Daily Tribune on April 15, 1854.

Marx noted that the city's "sedentary population numbered "about 15,500 souls, of whom 4,000 are Mussulmans [Muslims] and 8,000 Jews," thereby confirming that there has been a Jewish majority in Jerusalem since the 1850s.

(Jewish Review of Books) by Shlomo Avineri.

These days, the Palestinian leadership is doing its level best to erase the historical link between the Jews and the city, often with the assistance of those who otherwise would support Marx, his views and his philosophy.
